tastytrade is looking for a Front-End Engineer to join our team of engineers that builds out the technology that powers our retail brokerage website and supports our other business initiatives.

We care about the speed and stability of our back-end systems as much as we care about the customer-facing applications we build. Our ambitions and architecture is consistently evolving as our business grows and we face different technical challenges, but always with a focus on practicality and performance. You'll help by taking on ownership of current website capabilities as well as working on green field projects across our US entities, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Your role in the team

Youll join a talented frontend team that values collaboration and creativity. Your primary focus will be building and enhancing marketing websites, while also shaping smooth account opening experiences for our customers. The team crafts intuitive, high-performing interfaces that make a lasting impression and drive user engagement. Your work will directly influence how customers discover, trust, and choose our products-while giving you opportunities to grow your skills and advance your career.

What Youll Do

• Broaden your front-end expertise by delivering solutions across a variety of web experiences - from marketing sites to account onboarding flows and trading platform interfaces.
• Lead the design and implementation of a multi-step account opening process, ensuring a seamless, intuitive, and conversion-focused user experience.
• Take full ownership of the primary marketing website, optimizing its performance and user experience to maximize engagement, drive conversions, and deliver measurable business impact.
• Write application code using the Svelte.js framework.
• Improve the code quality of a large code base by participating in code reviews via pull requests.
• Partner/collaborate with other teams.
• Concept/Design from the UX/UI team
• Collaborate with the team on testing and validation of your own work and peers deliverables to ensure quality and reliability
• Collaborate with other engineers to establish best practices and make critical engineering decisions.
• Proactively learn the business domain to better understand the business intent.
• Assisting in creating/managing development tasks/tickets
• Work in multiple languages across different parts of the tastytrade stack and / or back-end applications.
• Partner/collaborate with other technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Provide guidance and leadership to more junior members of the team when questions arise about language or implementation specifics and contribute in a meaningful way to our peer review process.
• Translate requirements and technical direction into production-quality code with lightweight guidance from a senior engineer or team leadership.
• Work independently on smaller-scope tasks, as well as under the guidance of senior engineers to contribute to larger projects.

What Youll Need For This Role

• Ability to learn quickly in areas where you dont already have deep expertise
• Deep familiarity with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML details
• Substantial experience with a deployed modern Single Page Application framework such as React, Vue, or Svelte
• Strong understanding of web performance optimization techniques and best practices to ensure fast and efficient user experiences
• Familiarity with TypeScript and its features for building maintainable applications
• Comfort working with AWS services and ability to contribute to designing and maintaining scalable cloud-based solutions
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and practical experience integrating inclusive design principles into frontend development
• Experience writing view-oriented unit tests using Jest or similar JavaScript testing frameworks
• Familiarity with Playwright and ability to use it for end-to-end testing to improve reliability and quality across user flows
• Experience submitting work via pull requests and performing code review
• Ability to translate UX/UI designs into application code
• Experience with command-line tools such as Git and npm
• Comfort using an IDE such as WebStorm or Visual Studio Code
• Ability to provide critical feedback on work in a professional manner
• Capability to decide when a code change needs to be more substantial to accomplish a long-term goal versus doing what is necessary immediatelyA
