Job description:
As a Senior Software Engineer within HSBCs Global Debt Markets (GDM) IT team, you will play a key role in developing and supporting the Falcon UI platform - an advanced trading and risk application framework built on HTML5 and React. This platform underpins the GDM Trader Desktop and is central to the front-office technology landscape, supporting functions such as risk management, trade booking, electronic trading, and market making.
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that enable intraday pricing workflows and risk/hedge sourcing capabilities. The role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong collaboration with global stakeholders, and a deep understanding of both functional and architectural aspects of trading systems. You will contribute to building low-latency, resilient applications that reduce maintenance overhead and support growing business volumes.

The Opportunity:
Join HSBCs Global Debt Markets (GDM) IT team, supporting the core trading and risk applications used by Credit and Rates desks. Youll contribute to the Falcon UI platform - an advanced, scalable HTML5/React-based framework powering trader desktops globally.
What youll be doing:
- Develop and enhance features using Scala and React within the Falcon stack.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support rapid deployment cycles. Provide Level 2/3 support on a rotational basis for trading applications.
- Collaborate with global stakeholders including BAs, PMs, and support teams.
- Build scalable, low-latency systems to support increasing trading volumes.
- Ensure technical compatibility and user satisfaction across trading desks.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls and external regulations.
- Stay current with business practices and system capabilities.
Youre a great candidate if you have these:
- Strong proficiency in either Java or Scala with proven 5+ years of experience building multi-tiered enterprise applications.
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence).
- Excellent communication skills; able to perform some BA tasks.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ownership mentality across the full SDLC, from design to support.
- Team-oriented with experience in fast-paced technical environments.
- Understanding of trading workflows and risk/pricing systems is a plus.
- Willingness to lead and guide junior members of the team
Nice to have:
- Experience with JavaScript/React.js
- Hands on MongoDB or PostgreSQL
